ECM in San Ramon kitchens.
A dual-boiler ECM heats brew water and steam in two separate boilers, each with its own element and its own safety cutout. That design means one side can fail while the other keeps working. The steam gauge climbs and the wand roars, yet the shots come out cold. Or the espresso tastes right and the steam never builds. The fault sits on one side, and the job is to find which part there has stopped.
We collect machines in 94582 and 94583, from the remodeled kitchens of Bridges and Henry Ranch to the 2005 to 2015 houses of Dougherty Valley and the Westside, Twin Creeks and Country Club streets. On our bench we test each boiler on its own, measure its element and cutout, and read what the controller is asking for. You approve the written quote before we start.

Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Brew boiler cold while the steam side works. An open element, a tripped brew-side cutout or a failed relay leaves the brew boiler cold while the rest of the machine behaves. We test each in turn, replace the one that failed, and find out why a cutout tripped before resetting it.
- Steam boiler cold while the espresso is fine. Some dual-boiler machines let the owner switch the steam boiler off, so that setting is the first thing to check. If it is on and the steam side stays cold, we test the element, the cutout and the steam boiler fill, since a boiler that cannot fill is not allowed to heat.
- One boiler reading right on the display but wrong in the cup. If the display shows a normal number while the water is clearly cooler or hotter, the probe on that boiler may be failing. We compare the reading with a thermometer and replace the probe or its connector.

FAQ
ECM in San Ramon questions, answered.
-
Is it safe to keep making espresso while the steam side is dead?
Only if the steam boiler is simply switched off in the settings. If the steam side failed on its own, switch the machine off until it's checked. A dead steam side can be a cutout that tripped because the steam boiler could not fill, and that fault can get worse. -
Does a dual-boiler ECM need descaling in both boilers?
Both boilers take in water, so both collect minerals, but the steam boiler scales sooner because water boils off there. On the bench we look inside each one and quote only the boiler that needs it. -
Can we change the brew temperature ourselves?
Yes. On machines with a digital controller, the brew temperature is set from the display, and the manual shows how. If the setting changes by itself, or the shots stop matching the number, the controller or its probe needs testing. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
