ECM in Newark
ECM in Newark kitchens.
A heat-exchanger ECM does everything with one boiler. The boiler holds steam pressure, and a tube running through it heats brew water on its way to the group. A pressurestat keeps the boiler in range, and when its contacts wear the machine can run hot, run cool, or cycle in a way you start to notice. In a 1950s to 1970s Newark tract kitchen, the machine may also share a counter circuit with a kettle or a toaster.
We pick up anywhere in 94560, from the Lake area and Birch Grove to the newer townhomes near NewPark, and run the ECM on our bench through a long session of heat-ups, flushes and shots. When the fault shows, we trace it and write up the quote. Work begins after your approval, and the machine is tested again before it goes home.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Pressurestat clicking with boiler pressure out of range. The pressurestat opens and closes every time the element cycles. Pitted contacts can stick closed and push boiler pressure too high, or chatter so the element barely runs. We watch the boiler gauge through several cycles and replace the pressurestat if it will not hold its band.
- Brew water sputtering out of the group. After a long idle, water sitting in the heat exchanger overheats and flashes as it leaves the group. A short cooling flush before the shot is normal on this design. If the sputter never settles or every shot tastes scorched, we check the pressure setting and the thermosiphon loop for scale.
- Breaker or GFCI trips as the machine heats. An element with a cracked sheath can leak current to the frame and trip a GFCI. A kettle on the same circuit can trip a breaker too. We test the element insulation on the bench, and if the machine checks clean we tell you to look at the circuit instead.

FAQ
ECM in Newark questions, answered.
-
Why does our ECM hiss for a bit after we switch it on?
That is usually the anti-vacuum valve letting air out while the boiler warms. It seals once steam pressure builds. A short hiss is normal. If it keeps hissing, drips, or never seals, the valve is scaled or worn, and replacing it is a small bench job. -
Our Birch Grove kitchen has one outlet by the counter. Can the ECM share it?
It can, but not with a kettle or toaster running at the same time. The machine draws heavy current while it heats, and two heating appliances on one circuit can trip the breaker. If it trips with nothing else plugged in, bring the machine to us. -
Do we need the original box for pickup?
No. We carry the machine out, pad it for the ride and return it the same way. Empty the tank and drip tray, and write down what goes wrong and when, so we can reproduce it on the bench. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
