ECM in San Jose
ECM in San Jose kitchens.
In a remodeled San Jose kitchen, an ECM is sometimes built into the plan: a water line to the machine and a drain line from the drip tray, run through the counter to the sink trap. It is tidy until the drain slows. Coffee grounds and milk rinse wash into that hose every day, and when it clogs, the tray overflows onto the counter and water finds its way into the cabinet below.
We pick up from the Almaden Valley custom builds, the Craftsman remodels in Willow Glen, homes in Cambrian and Evergreen, and the West Valley pocket in 95129. The water and drain connections need to come off before the machine leaves. On our bench we clean the drain fittings, check the tray outlet and the supply side, and quote any repair in writing first.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Drip tray overflowing on a plumbed drain. A drain hose narrowed by coffee sludge, or kinked behind the machine, lets the tray fill and spill. We clean the tray outlet and the fitting on the machine, and if the clog sits in the hose under the counter, we say so plainly.
- Water line fitting weeping at the back. The supply connection flexes each time the machine is pulled forward for cleaning, and its seal wears. A slow weep behind the machine can go unnoticed for months. We replace the fitting and seal on the machine and pressure test the inlet.
- Autofill running long on a plumbed supply. When line pressure drops or the filter cartridge on the line is spent, the boiler takes longer to fill and the machine may show a fill error. We test the fill valve and the inlet screen on the bench, and point you to the filter or the supply if the machine checks out.

FAQ
ECM in San Jose questions, answered.
-
Our ECM drains into the sink trap under a Willow Glen counter. Who disconnects it for pickup?
Close the shutoff on the water line, then undo the supply hose and the drain hose at the machine end. If the fittings are stiff or hidden in the cabinet, tell us when you book so we can plan for it. Keep a towel ready, since both hoses hold water. -
Does a plumbed drain need cleaning at home?
Yes, now and then. Flush the tray with hot water after cleaning the group, and never knock coffee grounds into it. A drain that gurgles or empties slowly is starting to block, and it is easier to clear before the tray overflows. -
How can we tell whether the drain or the machine is causing the overflow?
Pour a cup of water into the empty tray. If it drains away at once, the drain is fine and the extra water comes from the machine, often from a valve that opens too early. If the cup sits in the tray, the drain is blocked. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
