ECM in Alamo
ECM in Alamo kitchens.
One ECM complaint sounds vague at first. The first shot of the morning tastes right, the third or fourth runs sour or harsh, and after an hour of rest the machine behaves again. That pattern points at the heating side: a temperature probe that reads wrong once it is hot, a relay starting to stick, or an element losing output. It is hard to judge from a single shot in the kitchen and much easier to catch on a bench with a thermometer in the group.
Pickup works the same from an estate in Round Hill or Stone Valley and from a smaller house in Westside Alamo near Las Trampas Creek. We collect the machine, run it through repeated cycles until the drift appears, and log brew temperature over time. The written quote names the failed part and the work to replace it, and nothing changes on the machine until you approve it.

Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Brew temperature that slides after a few shots. On a dual boiler ECM the brew boiler has its own probe and controller. An aging probe or a corroded connector sends a bad reading once the boiler is hot, and the controller chases the wrong number. We log temperature through a long run and replace the probe, relay or element the log points to.
- Steam slow to recover after milk drinks. When steam pressure drops and takes a long time to come back after two or three milk drinks, the element may be weak or coated in scale. We measure the element's resistance, open the boiler to look at the scale, and quote the element and a descale together only if both are needed.
- Controller error or a setting that will not hold. An error on the display, or a set temperature that resets itself, can come from the controller, the probe or a loose connection behind the panel. We test the probe and the wiring first, because a new controller will not help if the signal feeding it is bad.

FAQ
ECM in Alamo questions, answered.
-
Is the ECM from our Stone Valley kitchen remodel worth rebuilding?
If the boilers, frame and group are sound, usually yes. New seals, valves and a descale bring a well-built machine back into shape. If the bench finds a cracked boiler or a corroded frame, the written quote says so plainly and you decide. -
Why does my ECM pull a good first shot and a sour fourth one?
Once the brew side is hot, a failing probe or a weak element can let the temperature slide between shots. The grinder and the dose can also play a part. On the bench we measure the machine on its own, so the quote covers only what the machine is doing wrong. -
What should we write down before the pickup?
When the problem shows up, how many shots in, whether steaming makes it worse, and any error on the display. A phone photo of the gauges or the screen while it misbehaves is useful. A precise note narrows the bench search. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
