ECM in Lafayette
ECM in Lafayette kitchens.
On an ECM with an electronic temperature controller, the display shows what one sensor reports. If that sensor drifts, the screen still reads the set point while the water is hotter or cooler than it says. Shots start tasting burnt or sour, and the numbers look perfect. So we never trust the machine's own reading. We measure with our own thermometer at the group and in the boiler.
Machines from the remodeled kitchens of Happy Valley and Reliez Valley and from the older houses in Burton Valley and the Trail neighborhoods go through the same process. We collect the ECM, log temperature over several shots on our bench, and compare it with what the display claims. The written quote names the part, and you decide before anything is replaced.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Display reads correct while shots taste burnt. A sensor that reads low makes the controller heat past the set point. We compare the sensor with a reference thermometer, replace it if it has drifted, and recheck the temperature at the group across a run of shots.
- Temperature that overshoots and then falls away. The controller switches the element through a solid-state relay. A relay that sticks or switches late lets the boiler overshoot, and the temperature drops once the controller cuts back. We test the relay under load and replace it along with any heat-darkened wiring.
- Loose or oxidized sensor plug near the boiler. The sensor plug near the boiler sees heat every day, and a loose or oxidized contact gives the controller jumpy readings. We clean or replace the connector, secure the lead away from hot surfaces, and watch the reading hold steady.

FAQ
ECM in Lafayette questions, answered.
-
The display says our ECM is at temperature. Why do the shots taste burnt?
The display trusts one sensor. If that sensor reads low, the boiler runs hotter than the number on the screen. A bench test with a separate thermometer shows the real temperature, and a drifting sensor is a small part to replace. -
What brew temperature should we set on our ECM?
Start with the setting in your manual and change it in small steps, one a day, tasting as you go. Darker roasts usually want it lower and lighter roasts higher. If small changes make big differences in the cup, or none at all, the controller may not be doing what it shows. -
Is it hard on the machine to switch it on and off a few times a day?
Not on the electronics. Each heat-up does put the boilers and seals through an expansion cycle, so once in the morning and once in the afternoon is fine. Leaving it on all day uses more power but keeps temperatures steady. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
