ECM in Castro Valley
ECM in Castro Valley kitchens.
Castro Valley has two kinds of neighborhoods. The flats around the Village, Proctor and Jensen Ranch are mid-century ranch homes, and Five Canyons and Palomares Hills are hillside tracts from the 1990s on. One ECM fault looks the same in both: the pump runs on and on to refill the boiler, or it never refills and the machine shuts its heat off.
Both come back to how the machine senses water. A probe inside the boiler reads the level, a fill valve lets water in, and the controller decides when. Scale on the probe, a sticking valve or a loose wire confuses that loop. We collect the machine, find which part is giving the wrong answer, and send you a written quote before any repair.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Pump keeps running and the boiler overfills. When scale insulates the level probe, the controller reads the boiler as low and keeps filling. Water gets into the steam, the wand spits, and the tank empties quickly. We clean or replace the probe, descale the boiler if it needs it, and check the fill cycle from start to stop.
- Boiler never fills and the heat cuts out. If the fill valve sticks closed or its coil fails, the boiler stays low and the controller shuts the element off to protect it. We test the valve coil and seat, replace what failed, and confirm the machine fills and heats from empty.
- Tank emptying faster than drinks explain. If the tank drops when nobody is making coffee, water is going somewhere: an overfilled boiler venting through a valve, or a slow leak inside the case. We run the machine on the bench with a measured tank and track where the water goes.

FAQ
ECM in Castro Valley questions, answered.
-
Why does my ECM spit water from the steam wand the whole time I steam?
A little water at the start is condensation, so purge the wand first. Spitting that lasts through the whole steam means the boiler is too full, often because of a scaled level probe. That is a bench repair, and the quote will show exactly what it involves. -
Should we unplug the ECM if the pump will not stop running?
Yes. Switch it off at the machine, then unplug it once it is cool enough to handle. A pump that keeps running can flood the boiler and empty the tank. Write down what the machine was doing just before it started, then book the pickup. -
How do you test the fill system on the bench?
We fill the machine from empty and watch where the probe calls for water and where it stops. Then we draw steam and hot water so the refill has to work under load. The written quote names the part that failed. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
