ECM in Albany
ECM in Albany kitchens.
Albany kitchens are small. The houses on the Marin Avenue grid are mostly 1920s to 1940s stucco and wood bungalows on small lots, and some lots now add an ADU or a basement unit with a second, even smaller kitchen. An ECM in a space like that may share a circuit with the kettle and sit under an upper cabinet that catches its steam.
So some faults start outside the machine. When the breaker trips as the ECM heats, we test the element's insulation and the internal wiring on our bench. If both are sound, the machine is fine and the circuit is overloaded, which is a job for an electrician rather than a repair bill from us. Everything else follows the usual path: pickup, bench diagnosis, and a written quote you approve before any work starts.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Breaker or GFCI trips when the machine starts heating. A heating element with broken-down insulation leaks current to the frame, and the breaker or GFCI does its job. We measure the element's insulation resistance, look for heat damage in the wiring, and replace the element if it has failed.
- Low water warning with a full tank. Tank machines sense the reservoir level with a float and a switch. Scale, a stuck float or a tired switch can tell the machine the tank is empty when it is not. We clean or replace the sensor and run the tank down and back up to confirm it reads right.
- Water under the machine after it has been hot. A slow leak from a boiler fitting or the tank connection often shows only after the machine has been hot and under pressure for a while. We run it that way on the bench, find the fitting, and replace the seal before the water reaches the electronics.

FAQ
ECM in Albany questions, answered.
-
Our ECM trips the breaker in a small Albany kitchen. Is it the house or the machine?
It can be either. Try it on a different circuit with nothing else running. If it still trips, the machine has a fault and belongs on our bench. If it only trips on the kitchen circuit with the kettle going, the circuit is overloaded and an electrician should look at it. -
Can you pick up from an ADU or a basement unit behind the main house?
Yes. Tell us which door to use and whether there are steps. Have the machine off, cool and with the tank empty. We carry it out, and we bring it back to the same spot when the repair is done. -
Does steam from the machine hurt the cabinet above it?
Over time it can. The wand purge and the vacuum breaker at warm-up both send moisture straight up. Leave a gap above the machine or pull it forward to steam. If the vacuum breaker keeps venting long after warm-up, that valve is sticking and we can replace it. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
