ECM in Fremont

A home descale that goes wrong can leave an ECM worse off than before. Vinegar leaves a smell and a film and does little to heavy scale. Strong acid left too long attacks brass and seals. Even the right descaler loosens scale in flakes, and those flakes travel to the smallest openings in the machine: the fill valve, the restrictor, the steam and hot water valves. A machine that seemed fine starts leaking, stops filling or loses steam.
For a pickup anywhere from Centerville to Mission San Jose, tell us what descaler you used, how strong, and how long it sat. That tells us where to look first. We flush the machine on our bench, find where the loose scale landed, and send a written quote. The repair itself starts only when you agree to it.

Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Leak that started after a home descale. Acid softens old seals and eats the scale that was plugging a weak joint. Once the scale is gone, the joint weeps. We pressurize the machine hot, replace the seals the acid damaged, and remake any fitting that leaks.
- Pump running but the boiler will not fill. Loose flakes tend to lodge in the fill valve or in the check valve behind the pump. The pump runs, the boiler stays low, and the heat shuts off. We open the fill path, clear or replace the valve, and flush the boiler until the water runs clean.
- Vinegar smell or taste that will not go away. Vinegar soaks into gaskets and hoses and keeps coming back in the cup. We flush the boiler and lines several times and replace the soft parts that still carry the smell, so the first shot after the job tastes like coffee.

FAQ
ECM in Fremont questions, answered.
-
Can we descale our ECM with vinegar?
We advise against it. Vinegar is weak on hard scale, leaves a taste, and its acid still works on seals. Use a descaler made for espresso machines at the strength on the label, and follow your manual. On heat-exchanger and dual-boiler machines with heavy scale, a bench descale is safer. -
We descaled and now the pump only buzzes. What happened?
Loose scale has most likely blocked something between the tank and the boiler, often the check valve or the fill valve. Running the pump against a blockage heats it up, so switch the machine off and book the pickup. The fix is usually a clean valve, not a new pump. -
How often should an ECM be descaled?
It depends on your water and how much you use the machine. With a softening filter, a planned inspection is enough and descaling may rarely be needed. With unfiltered tap water, have the boilers looked at on a set interval so scale is caught before it breaks loose in flakes. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
