ECM in Pleasant Hill
ECM in Pleasant Hill kitchens.
A small valve between the pump and the boiler does a quiet job on every ECM. It lets cold water in and keeps hot water from running back out. When it wears, or a flake of scale holds it open, the machine starts acting oddly. The tank water turns warm, the pump gurgles before the first water moves, and the boiler level wanders. On a Pleasant Hill afternoon near 90 degrees, a warm tank is easy to blame on the kitchen.
We pick up anywhere in 94523, from the mid-century ranch houses in Gregory Gardens and Poets Corner to the larger homes in Hidden Lakes. The machine comes up from cold on our bench with a thermometer in its tank, so a valve that leaks back has nowhere to hide. You get a written quote naming the part, and the work waits for your approval.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Check valve letting hot water back toward the tank. A check valve that no longer seats lets heated water drift back through the pump toward the reservoir. The tank warms, and a vibration pump fed with warm water starts to struggle. We pull the valve, clean or replace it, and run a long warm-up to confirm the tank water stays cool.
- Pump slow to prime after a refill. Air in the intake hose, a cracked hose end or a sticking valve behind the pump makes it rattle for a while before water moves. We check the tank connection and the intake screen, replace the hose if it has split, and time how long the pump takes to deliver water from a fresh fill.
- Boiler level dropping overnight. When water slips backward through a worn check valve and a fill valve that no longer closes tightly, the boiler loses level while the machine sits. The pump then runs long every morning to refill it. We watch the fill after a rest and replace the valve seals that let water pass.

FAQ
ECM in Pleasant Hill questions, answered.
-
The water in our ECM tank feels warm by mid-morning. Is that normal?
A little warmth is normal, since the tank sits close to hot parts. Water that turns properly warm, or a tank that fogs up, points to hot water running back from the boiler. That is a valve fault, and it is worth fixing before the pump starts struggling. -
Is it safe to keep brewing if the pump gurgles before each shot?
For a short while, as long as the gauge still reaches brew pressure and nothing leaks. If the gurgling gets longer, or the pump runs with no water reaching the group, switch the machine off. A vibration pump running without water overheats and wears quickly. -
Could a clogged tank filter cause the gurgling instead?
It can. A filter that is spent, or one sitting crooked on the intake, starves the pump the same way air in the hose does. Take it out and pull a shot. If the noise goes away, replace the cartridge. If it stays, the fault is inside the machine. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
