ECM in Mountain View
ECM in Mountain View kitchens.
Some ECM machines use a rotary pump and can be plumbed to a water line instead of running from the tank. In an Old Mountain View Craftsman remodel or a Cuesta kitchen rebuilt around the machine, that is a tidy setup until the supply, the pump or the fill valve misbehaves. The symptoms get confusing: pressure that shifts from one day to the next, a pump that hums without turning, a boiler that stops topping up.
We take the machine from any of the three Mountain View ZIPs to our bench and run it on a controlled supply while we watch the pump and the boiler fill. That separates a machine fault from a problem with the water line at the house. Our written quote covers the machine. If the trouble is in your supply line, we say so, and a plumber can deal with it.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Rotary pump motor that hums but will not turn. A rotary pump that sits idle can stick, and a motor that hums without spinning may have a failing start capacitor or a seized pump head. We free and run the pump on the bench, test the capacitor, and replace the head or the motor only if it will not run clean.
- Boiler that stops filling on a plumbed line. The fill solenoid and the level probe work as a pair. If the probe is coated or the solenoid coil fails, the boiler runs low, the controls cut power to the element and the machine goes quiet. We test both and clean or replace the one at fault.
- Gauge reading high during the shot. On a rotary machine the pump bypass sets brew pressure. If it drifts, or high line pressure adds to it, shots run hard and thin. We reset pump pressure on the bench and recommend a regulator on the supply when the house line runs high.

FAQ
ECM in Mountain View questions, answered.
-
Our Shoreline townhome has no water line near the counter. Can a plumbed ECM run from the tank instead?
Many rotary ECM machines can run from either the tank or a line, selected by a valve or a switch on the machine. We check how yours is set up on the bench and can set it for the tank before it comes back. -
Should a plumbed ECM have a water filter on the line?
Yes. A filter made for espresso catches sediment and cuts the minerals that build scale in the boilers. Change the cartridge on the schedule printed on it, because a spent filter does nothing. We can look at the inlet screen for grit while the machine is on the bench. -
Can we keep using the machine until pickup?
If it heats, holds pressure and stays dry underneath, yes. Stop using it if water collects under the case, the breaker trips, the safety valve vents steam, or the pump runs with nothing coming out of the group. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
