ECM in Moraga
ECM in Moraga kitchens.
Moraga kitchens run from the 1960s and 70s tracts in Campolindo and Rheem Valley to the newer houses in Sanders Ranch, and plenty have been remodeled around good equipment. A dual-boiler ECM suits that kind of kitchen. It keeps brew water and steam in separate boilers, with a digital controller holding the brew side steady. When the shots start tasting off, the question is which boiler has drifted and which part of its control is responsible.
We pick the machine up in 94556 and put it on our bench. There it heats from cold, pulls shot after shot and steams while we log temperature and pressure on both sides. Once the fault repeats, we trace it to a probe, an element, a relay or a valve and send a written quote. Nothing is replaced until you approve it.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Brew temperature that wanders on the display. A probe that reads wrong or a relay that sticks can make the brew boiler overshoot and then sag, while the display still shows the set point. We measure water temperature at the group against the controller reading, then replace the probe, relay or controller that is out of line.
- Steam boiler slow to build pressure. A lagging steam side can be a tired element, a scaled boiler, or a level probe that lets the boiler overfill so there is more water to heat. We test the element, check the fill level, and pull the probe to inspect it for scale.
- Portafilter leaking around the rim. Group gaskets harden with heat and age, and the handle has to swing further to seal. We fit a new gasket and shower screen, then pull shots to confirm the group seals at full pressure.

FAQ
ECM in Moraga questions, answered.
-
Our kitchen runs cold on winter mornings. Does that change how long the ECM takes to heat?
A cold room adds a little to warm-up, but it should not change where the machine settles. If the gauge or display never reaches its usual point, or the shots taste sour after a long warm-up, that points to a heating or control fault. -
We bought a house in Sanders Ranch and the sellers left an ECM behind. Where do we start?
Treat it as untested. Machines that sat unused often need gaskets and a descale before anything else, and dried seals can leak once the boilers heat. We can take it for a full bench check of heat-up, pressure, valves and seals, then quote only what it needs. -
Do both boilers need to be drained before you collect the machine?
No, we handle the boilers on the bench. Empty the water tank and drip tray, switch the machine off and give it a few hours to cool. If it is plumbed to a water line, close the shutoff before pickup. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?

What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
