ECM in Pleasanton
ECM in Pleasanton kitchens.
One ECM fault puzzles owners more than most. The pump runs, the brew gauge climbs to its usual mark, and almost nothing reaches the cup. Since the pressure is there, the pump is rarely the culprit. The water path has closed somewhere between the boiler and the basket: a scaled jet feeding the group, a stuck valve inside the lever mechanism, or a shower screen packed solid with old coffee.
Pleasanton kitchens run from the 1960s and 70s houses in Vintage Hills, Birdland and downtown to the estate homes of Ruby Hill and Castlewood. The machine from each gets the same treatment. We collect it in 94566 or 94588, open the group on our bench, and measure flow at each point along the water path. The repair is quoted in writing, and it starts once you approve.

Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Scaled jet choking flow to the group. A narrow jet meters water into the group, and a small plug of scale there can stop a shot while the gauge reads normal. We remove it, clear or replace it, and check flow with the portafilter out before the group goes back together.
- Lever group stuck partway through its travel. On ECM machines with a lever group, the lever works a cam and a set of small valves and gaskets. Dried grease and worn gaskets can hold the brew valve shut even with the lever up. We strip the group, fit a new gasket set, lubricate it with food-safe grease and pull a run of test shots.
- Shower screen and dispersion plate packed with coffee. Coffee oil and fines bake onto the screen and the plate behind it until water gets through only a few holes. Shots slow to a drip and pool on one side of the puck. We soak and scrub both parts, replace a screen that has warped, and check that the retaining screw is sound.

FAQ
ECM in Pleasanton questions, answered.
-
Our ECM gauge shows pressure but the shot barely drips. Is the pump failing?
Probably not. A worn pump struggles to build pressure at all. Full pressure on the gauge with little flow points to a blockage further along, in the group or the jet that feeds it. Try a coarser grind once to rule out the coffee, then book the pickup if nothing changes. -
How often should the shower screen come off for cleaning?
On a home machine pulling a few shots a day, take the screen off and clean behind it every few weeks. A machine that also serves guests on weekends needs it more often. If the screw will not turn or the screen is bent, leave it for the bench rather than forcing it. -
Can the lever group be rebuilt, or does it need replacing?
It can almost always be rebuilt. The group body itself rarely fails. What wears are the gaskets, springs and cam parts, and each of those can be replaced. The quote says what the rebuild covers and gives one total for the job. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
