ECM in Alameda
ECM in Alameda kitchens.
An ECM in a remodeled Gold Coast Victorian and one on the short counter of a Bay Farm Island condo wear out the same parts. The steam knob starts to weep, the drip tray fills between shots, or the steam at the wand turns wet and weak. None of it is urgent on the first day. Left alone, a weeping steam valve scales its own seat, and a slow leak finds its way down to the wiring under the boiler.
We repair ECM machines on our bench. We collect the machine from your home, run it long enough to reproduce the fault, and send a written quote that names the part and the work. Nothing is repaired until you approve it. The townhomes and condos on Bay Farm Island date from the 1970s and 80s, and some have stairs between the front door and the kitchen, so tell us about steps and parking when you book.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Steam valve that drips or has to be forced shut. A steam knob that needs a hard twist to stop dripping has worn seals or a scaled seat. We take the valve apart, clean or replace the seat and seals, and check that it closes again with light pressure. Forcing it shut is how the seat gets damaged in the first place.
- Drip tray filling between shots. Water in the tray when nobody is brewing comes from somewhere specific: an expansion valve opening too early, or a group valve that no longer seals. We run the machine hot, watch which outlet is passing water, and clean, reset or replace that valve.
- Wet, sputtering steam from the wand. Dried milk inside the tip cuts steam to a sputter, and a boiler filled too high sends water out with it. We clear the tip holes, replace tired wand seals, and check the boiler fill level before anyone blames the heating element.

FAQ
ECM in Alameda questions, answered.
-
Can you collect an ECM from a Bay Farm Island townhome with stairs?
Yes. Tell us about the stairs, parking and any building rules when you book. Have the machine switched off and cool, the tank empty, and the portafilters and drip tray packed on their own so nothing shifts on the way. -
My steam knob only stops dripping if I crank it. Should I keep tightening it?
No. More force presses the seal into a scaled seat and damages both. Close it gently, keep a towel under the wand, and book the pickup. A steam valve rebuild is routine bench work, and the quote will spell it out. -
Should I descale the machine before it goes to your bench?
Please send it as it is. Descaling right before intake can hide the symptom we need to reproduce, and loosened scale can lodge in a valve on the way. A short note on what the machine does, and when, helps more. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
