Why does our ECM take so much longer to heat than it used to?

Scale around the element, a weak connection, or an element losing output will all slow the warm-up. Note how long it takes now compared with when it was new, and send that with the machine. The bench test measures the element and shows which one it is.

What should we do if we smell something hot from the machine?

Switch it off and unplug it. A hot smell can come from an overheated connector, a hose touching the boiler, or scale baking on the element. Let it cool, do not run it again to find the source, and tell us what you noticed when you book.

Lights and pump working, but no heat. If the lights come on and the pump runs but the boiler stays cold, the element may have burned open or its cutout may have tripped. We measure the element's resistance, check the cutout and the wiring to it, and find out why the cutout opened before resetting anything.
Water and scale at the element terminals. A weeping flange gasket lets water run down onto the terminals, and scale builds on the connectors. We replace the gasket, clean or replace the terminals and connectors, and check the element for a short to the boiler.
Boiler slow to heat and cutout tripping. Heavy scale around the element traps heat in the coil. The machine heats slowly, the element runs hot, and the safety cutout may open. We descale the boiler, inspect the element for damage, and replace it if the scale has cooked it.
