ECM in Pacifica
ECM in Pacifica kitchens.
Pacifica sits right on the ocean, and the salt air and fog moving through Sharp Park, Rockaway Beach and Linda Mar get inside kitchens too. An ECM is mostly stainless steel and chrome-plated brass, which hold up well. The electrical terminals, switch contacts and small fasteners inside the case are less forgiving, and a green or white crust on a connection can cause heating faults that come and go.
We collect the machine anywhere in 94044, from the 1950s and 60s ranch homes near the flats to the newer houses up in the hills, and bring it to our bench. With the case open we check each connection for corrosion alongside the usual pump, valve and seal work. The written quote comes first. After the repair we test the machine and return it.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Corroded terminals at the heating element. Damp, salty air can leave a crust on spade terminals and screw connections. Resistance rises, the connector heats, and the element may drop out just when the machine is working hardest. We clean or replace the terminals and check the element and wiring around them.
- Power switch that crackles or cuts out. Switch contacts and indicator lights sit near the front of the case, where moist air reaches them first. A switch that crackles, or cuts power when touched, should be replaced before it overheats. We fit a new one and run the machine through a full heat-up.
- Brew pressure dropping on a tank machine. When shots slow down and the gauge reads low, the vibration pump may be worn or the tank intake screen clogged. We check pump output against the expansion valve setting and clean the intake before replacing any part.

FAQ
ECM in Pacifica questions, answered.
-
Should we cover the ECM when it is off, this close to the ocean?
A breathable cover keeps damp air and dust off, but let the machine cool completely first so moisture is not trapped under it. Wipe the chrome now and then and keep the drip tray empty. Corrosion inside the case is something we check on the bench. -
We only make coffee on weekends. Is it fine to leave water in the tank all week?
Fresh water each time is better. Water that sits for days grows a film in the tank and lines. If the machine will sit, empty and dry the tank, then run some water through the group before the first shot. -
Is pitting on the chrome of the group something to repair?
Pitting on the outside is cosmetic. What matters is under it: the gasket, the shower screen, the valves and the cam. If pitting reaches the surface where the gasket seals, we take a closer look. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
