ECM in East Palo Alto
ECM in East Palo Alto kitchens.
An espresso machine does not travel well full of water. Moved with water still in the tank and boilers, it can slosh water onto the electronics, loosen fittings and crack a tank at the corners. Bought secondhand, it arrives with a history nobody wrote down: how it was descaled, how long it sat, what was replaced. Both kinds of machine need the same thing first, a full test before more money goes into them.
East Palo Alto is mostly apartments and older single-family rentals, with newer buildings near University Avenue. For an apartment pickup, tell us the entrance, the floor and whether there is an elevator. We collect the ECM, run it from cold, check every fitting while it is hot, and put the findings in a written quote. The repair waits for your go-ahead.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Leak that started after a move. Road vibration loosens compression fittings and can crack the drip tray or the tank. We pressurize the machine hot, find each weeping joint, retighten or replace the fitting and its seal, and swap out any cracked plastic part.
- Machine that will not power on after being carried. Water that sloshed out of the tank or boiler on the way can sit on a connector or the control board. We dry the case, check each plug and the board, and test the power switch and the cutouts one at a time before the machine runs for long.
- Full bench check on a secondhand machine. A used ECM needs a baseline. We test brew and steam temperature, pump pressure, the safety valve and the gaskets, look inside the boiler for scale, and give you a written list of what is worn, what is due soon and what is fine.

FAQ
ECM in East Palo Alto questions, answered.
-
We are moving to a new apartment. How do we pack the ECM?
Let it cool fully, empty the tank and drip tray, and take the portafilter out. Keep the machine upright and wedge it so it cannot slide. Do not lay it on its back or side, because the boilers still hold water. If it behaves differently in the new place, stop using it and book a pickup. -
We bought a used ECM online. Should it go on the bench before we use it?
If you do not know its history, yes. A check before daily use finds a stuck safety valve, a hardened gasket or heavy scale while they are still small jobs. If the seller can show recent service records, the check can wait until the machine shows a symptom. -
Can you pick up from a building near University Avenue with a front desk?
Yes. Tell us the building name, any delivery rules and where to meet you. If the building needs proof of insurance or a set loading time, mention it when you book so the pickup goes through without a second trip. -
What does the ECM pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does ECM bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to ECM coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
