Rocket Espresso in Vallejo
Rocket Espresso in Vallejo kitchens.
Vallejo's tap water is on the hard side, and a Rocket heats a lot of it. Each tank that turns into steam or passes through the boiler leaves a little mineral behind. On a heat-exchanger Rocket that scale settles in the steam boiler and in the narrow tube that carries brew water through it, so over time the shots slow down, the boiler takes longer to refill, and the group runs cooler than it used to.
We collect from homes in 94589 through 94592: Glen Cove along the Carquinez Strait, Hiddenbrooke off Interstate 80, South Vallejo, and the Victorian and Craftsman houses downtown. Leave the machine cold and drained. On our bench we open the case, check the boiler fittings and the flow restrictor for scale, measure brew temperature at the group, and send a written quote before any repair starts.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Brew flow thinning as scale narrows the water path. Minerals collect where the path is tightest: the flow restrictor under the group, the inlet of the heat-exchanger tube, and the autofill valve. Flow drops, the pump strains, and shots run long. We descale the boiler, clear or replace the restrictor, and measure pump output at the group once the path is open again.
- Steam boiler that overfills or never finishes filling. The level probe reads water by conductivity, and a crust of scale on its tip confuses it. The pump then keeps running and floods the boiler, or the fill takes so long that the controller cuts the heat. We clean or replace the probe, test the autofill solenoid, and watch several fill cycles before the machine goes back.
- Heating element that trips the safety cutout. Scale on the element traps heat against the metal, and the element can run hot enough to open the safety thermostat. The machine then stays cold until someone resets it. We find the cause before resetting anything, whether that is scale, a stuck pressure switch or a failing element, because a reset alone brings the same trip back.

FAQ
Rocket Espresso in Vallejo questions, answered.
-
Does a Rocket on Vallejo tap water need descaling more often?
Usually, yes, compared with the same machine on softer water. How often depends on how many shots and how much steam you make. A filter meant for espresso, or softened water in the reservoir, slows the build-up. If the machine already shows heavy scale, bring it to the bench first, because descaling a badly scaled boiler at home can break flakes loose that then block the restrictor or a valve. -
We live in Hiddenbrooke. Can the machine be collected from the house?
Yes. Hiddenbrooke is part of our Vallejo pickup area like the rest of the city. Switch the machine off the night before so it is cold, empty the reservoir and the drip tray, and put the portafilter and baskets in a bag so nothing rattles loose on the way. -
Should we fill our Rocket with bottled water instead of Vallejo tap?
It can help, but choose carefully. Distilled and reverse-osmosis water carry almost no minerals, and a level probe needs a little conductivity to sense the water. A low-mineral bottled water, or tap water run through a softening filter, is the safer middle ground for the boiler and the probe. -
What does the Rocket Espresso pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
