When the brew gauge on a Rocket stops climbing to its usual reading during a shot, the pump gets blamed first. It is only one of three suspects. The expansion valve may be opening early and sending water back to the tank, a check valve may be letting pressure bleed backward, or the pump may really be worn. Each leaves a different trace on a test gauge.

We pick up machines across 94523, from the 1950s ranch houses of Gregory Gardens and Poets Corner to Hidden Lakes and the west side near Briones Regional Park. On our bench we fit a gauge at the group, close off each path in turn, and read what the pump actually produces. The quote names the failed part in writing before anything is replaced.

$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

  • Brew gauge stopping halfway through a shot. If the expansion valve lifts too early, pump pressure escapes back to the tank and the needle stops short. Scale on the valve seat or a spring that has relaxed is usually behind it. We clean or rebuild the valve and set its opening point against a test gauge.
  • Pump stuttering before water reaches the puck. A check valve between the pump and the boiler should hold pressure once the pump stops. Scale props it open, water drains back, and the pump has to refill the line at the start of every shot. We replace the valve and confirm the gauge holds after the pump switches off.
  • Shots running thin even at a finer grind. When grinding finer no longer slows the shot, the machine is not building pressure. A worn vibratory pump, a sticking expansion valve or a partly blocked intake can each cause it. Our bench test separates the three before we suggest a part.

FAQ

Rocket Espresso in Pleasant Hill questions, answered.

  • How can we tell whether a low brew gauge is the machine or the grind?
Pull one shot at a much finer grind. If the gauge climbs to its usual reading and the flow slows to drips, the machine is building pressure and the grind was the variable. If the needle still stops short, a pump or valve is losing pressure and the machine should come in.
  • Do you pick up from the west side near Briones Regional Park?
Yes. The streets near Briones, Hidden Lakes, Gregory Gardens, Poets Corner and the downtown blocks all sit in 94523. Let the machine cool fully before we arrive, with the tank and drip tray empty and the portafilter beside it.
  • Can we adjust the expansion valve ourselves?
We would not. On most Rockets it sits inside the case beside live wiring and a hot boiler, and turning it without a gauge at the group only moves the problem around. Tell us what the gauge reads and we set it properly on the bench.
  • What does the Rocket Espresso pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately.
  • How long does Rocket Espresso bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered.
  • What warranty applies to Rocket Espresso coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
