Rocket Espresso in Oakland
Rocket Espresso in Oakland kitchens.
A lot of Oakland housing is old. Rockridge and Crocker Highlands are largely 1910s and 1920s construction, and Montclair runs from the 1920s into the 60s on steep lots. A Rocket heating from cold draws a heavy electrical load, and in an older kitchen its outlet may share a circuit with the kettle or the toaster. When the breaker only trips with everything running together, the circuit is often the issue rather than the machine.
A tripping GFCI outlet points somewhere else. As the insulation inside a heating element breaks down, a little current leaks to the frame, and the GFCI cuts power the moment the element switches on. We collect the machine, test the element's insulation on our bench, look over the wiring and connectors near the boiler, and send a written quote before changing anything.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- GFCI outlet cutting power as the machine heats. Moisture or a cracked sheath inside the element lets current leak to ground. The machine may run for weeks, then trip every morning. We measure insulation resistance on the element with the machine cold and again warm, and replace the element when it fails that test.
- Scorched connectors close to the heating element. The terminals on the element and the pressure switch carry heavy current in a hot space. A loose spade connector heats up, discolors, and eventually lets the heat cut out at random. We replace the damaged connectors and any heat-hardened wire, and check that each terminal is tight.
- Pressure gauge needle stuck in one place. Each gauge reads through a thin tube, and scale in that tube can freeze the needle at zero or at one reading. A worn gauge movement does the same. We clear the tube or replace the gauge, then compare it with a test gauge so the reading on the front can be trusted again.

FAQ
Rocket Espresso in Oakland questions, answered.
-
Our Montclair house has a long flight of steps down to the street. Can you still take the machine?
Yes. A dual-boiler Rocket is heavy, so mention the steps when you book and we plan the carry. Have it switched off and cold, with the tank and drip tray empty, and clear a path to the door. -
The breaker trips only when the toaster and the Rocket run together. Does the machine need repair?
Not for that alone. Try the machine on another kitchen circuit with nothing else running while it heats. If it comes up normally there, the original circuit is simply overloaded. If it trips on a circuit of its own, or it trips a GFCI outlet, send it in. -
The steam knob gets a little stiffer every month. Why?
The valve behind the knob seals against a seat, and scale plus dried milk around the stem make it bind. Forcing it harder to stop a drip wears the seal and the seat faster. On the bench we clean the valve, replace the seal, and check the seat. -
What does the Rocket Espresso pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does Rocket Espresso bench repair take?

What warranty applies to Rocket Espresso coffee-machine repair?
