A well-built Rocket can run for many years, but its rubber and moving parts do not last that long. Gaskets harden, valve seals flatten, the pump wears, and the pressurestat or controller drifts. When several of those show up at once, a full overhaul makes more sense than fixing them one pickup at a time. The machine comes apart on the bench, every seal and wear part on the water path is replaced, and the boiler is descaled and inspected.

Hillsborough has some of the oldest estate houses on the Peninsula, the 1920s and 30s Tudors and Spanish revivals, alongside mid-century homes and the rebuilds that followed. A machine may sit in the main kitchen or out in a casita or pool house. We collect it from North Hillsborough, Tobin Clark or Lower Hillsborough and set out the overhaul in a written quote before we start.

What we repair on the bench.

Complete seal and gasket kit on the water path. An overhaul replaces the group gasket, the valve seals, the vacuum valve seal and the gaskets where the element and probes enter the boiler. Doing them together means the machine does not come back for the next tired seal a few months later.
Boiler descaled and element inspected. With the boiler opened, we remove the scale, look at the element sheath and the probe tips, and replace anything swollen, pitted or coated beyond cleaning. The boiler then goes back together with new gaskets and is pressure-tested.
Pump, expansion valve and pressure switch checked under load. After the rebuild the machine runs on the bench for a long session. We measure brew pressure, check boiler pressure against the switch or controller, and replace the pump or the pressure switch only if their readings fall outside spec.
