Not before it has been opened. If there is heavy scale inside, a descaler can loosen flakes that then block the restrictor or a valve. We look inside first, clean the boiler by hand if it needs it, and then suggest a routine that suits EBMUD water.

Before you rely on one every morning, it deserves a full bench check of the boiler, pump, valves, gaskets and wiring.

What we repair on the bench.

Old leak marks inside a secondhand case. Green or white crust on fittings, rust on the frame and a stained base all point to a leak at some point. We pressure-test the machine with the case open, reseal or replace the fittings that weep, and check the wiring near any old wet spot.
Steam and hot-water valves that drip when closed. The seals in the steam and hot-water taps wear with every turn. A wand that drips when shut, or a knob that needs force to stop the flow, calls for a valve rebuild. We rebuild both taps together so they wear evenly afterward.
Safety valve weeping after it has lifted. A boiler safety valve that has opened, even once, may not reseat. It keeps weeping steam into the case. We find out why pressure climbed that high, often a pressure switch stuck closed, fix that first, and then fit a new valve.
