Close the supply valve under the counter the day before, and tell us when you book that the machine is plumbed. The supply hose, and the drain line if there is one, have to come off before the machine travels. It comes back with its fittings capped and ready to reconnect.

Do we still need a filter on the water line?

Yes. The filter protects the pump and slows scale in the boiler. Change the cartridge on the schedule its maker gives and write the date on it. A clogged cartridge is one of the first things we rule out when pressure drops.

A drop in shot pressure may come from the pump, but it can just as well come from a clogged inline filter, a regulator that has drifted, or a supply valve that was never opened all the way.

In Round Hill, Stone Valley and the estate streets west of Danville Boulevard, a plumbed machine usually sits at the end of a line that also feeds a filter cartridge. On the bench we run the machine from a regulated supply, measure pump pressure against the brew gauge, and look at every joint that carries line pressure. We write up what failed, and nothing is replaced until you approve the quote.

What we repair on the bench.

Weak shot pressure on a plumbed rotary pump. We start upstream of the machine. A spent filter cartridge or a regulator set too low starves the pump, and the brew gauge reads short. If the supply is fine, we check the pump head for wear and its bypass setting, then adjust it to the machine's spec and pull test shots.
Pump motor humming without turning. A rotary pump that hums and does not spin has either a seized pump head, often from scale or debris, or a motor that will not start. We separate the head from the motor to find which one failed, because the two are replaced separately and a new head on a tired motor fixes nothing.
Water on the counter under a plumbed machine. Water under the machine can come from the inlet fitting, a cracked drip tray, or a joint inside the case that weeps only under line pressure. We run the machine plumbed on the bench with the case off and dry paper under each joint, so the leak shows where it starts.
