What we repair on the bench.

Flow from the group dropping over months. Scale builds inside the heat exchanger and the group passages until less water gets through. A shot that once ran normally slows down with the grind unchanged. We descale the exchanger and the group, then measure the flow again to check it has come back.
Heating element coated and slow to heat. Scale insulates the element from the water, so it runs hotter to do the same work. Warm-up gets longer, and in time the element fails. We inspect the element while the boiler is open and replace it if the sheath is swollen or pitted.
Valves jammed by loose scale flakes. Flakes travel with the water and lodge in the vacuum valve, the fill valve and the steam valve seat. A valve stuck open leaks, and one stuck shut stops the machine working. After descaling we clean every valve on the water path, not just the one that failed.
