Usually the new gasket is the wrong thickness or not seated evenly, or a bit of the old one is still in the groove. Check that it sits flat all the way around. If the leak continues, send the machine in and we will reseat or replace it.

What we repair on the bench.

New group gasket that still leaks. A gasket of the wrong thickness, or one pressed in unevenly, leaves a gap on one side, and water escapes around the portafilter. Old gasket fragments left in the groove do the same. We clear the groove, fit the correct gasket evenly, and check the portafilter lock angle and seal under a full shot.
Tank filter that starves the pump. A softening filter in the tank blocks up with age, and air can stay trapped in a new one that was not soaked first. Either way the pump struggles for water, gets loud and pulls weak shots. We replace or prepare the filter properly, then prime the pump and measure its pressure at the group.
Pressure or temperature adjusted at home and left off. Turning the expansion valve or the boiler pressure switch by hand is easy to overdo. Shots then run sour, bitter or unpredictable, and the machine may start dripping from the expansion valve. We measure the actual pressures, reset them to sensible values, and note the settings for you.
