Profitec in San Jose

Profitec in San Jose kitchens.

We collect Profitec machines across five San Jose ZIPs: Almaden Valley in 95120, Cambrian in 95124, Willow Glen in 95125, the pocket near Cupertino in 95129, and Evergreen in 95135. The kitchens differ, from Willow Glen Craftsman remodels to late-2000s custom builds in Almaden Valley, but a heat exchanger machine left idle anywhere does the same thing.

Water resting in the heat exchanger gets hotter than brewing needs, so the first pull after a quiet spell can spit and hiss at the group before it settles. A short flush clears it, and that is normal. When the sputter lasts through a flush, or the boiler seems to run hotter than before, we test the pressure switch and boiler on our bench and send a written price.

$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

  • Group that spits steam on the first pull after idling. Water in the heat exchanger can pass boiling point while the machine idles, and it flashes to steam as it reaches the group. A brief flush brings in cooler water. If it takes a long flush every time, the boiler is probably set too high or its switch is creeping upward. We read the pressure through several cycles and reset or replace the switch.
  • Boiler pressure set higher than the machine needs. More steam power tempts people to turn the boiler pressure up. On a heat exchanger machine that also raises brew temperature, lengthens every cooling flush, and works the safety valve harder. We set the pressure back to a range that steams well and brews at a sensible temperature, and explain the trade-off.
  • Scale inside the heat exchanger tube. Scale inside the exchanger narrows the path and shifts the temperature balance, so shots run hotter or flow drops. Descaling a heat exchanger machine takes care, because loosened flakes can block the small restrictor above the group. We clean it with the boiler opened and check flow at the group afterward.

FAQ

Profitec in San Jose questions, answered.

  • Our heat exchanger Profitec spits and hisses at the group on the first shot. Is that a fault?
Not by itself. Water sitting in the heat exchanger overheats while the machine idles, and it flashes to steam when it hits the group. Run a short flush until the hissing stops, then pull the shot. If it never settles after a flush, send it to our bench.
  • Can we turn the boiler pressure up for stronger steam?
Only from the controls your model gives you. A PID model sets boiler temperature from its display or preset switch, as the manual shows. On other models the pressure switch sits inside the case. That isn't an owner adjustment, so leave it to us. Either way, on a heat exchanger machine the brew water gets hotter with it, and the cooling flush grows longer. If you want stronger steam and steady brew temperature together, the setting is only part of the answer, and we can talk it through while the machine is on our bench.
  • Do you collect from Evergreen and Almaden Valley as well as Willow Glen?
