Profitec in Orinda
Profitec in Orinda kitchens.
Orinda houses sit on hillsides under oak canopy, from the older homes near the village and the BART side to Orinda Downs, Sleepy Hollow and the country-club streets. Plenty of the kitchens date from remodels between 1998 and 2010, so a Profitec bought then may be well into its second decade. One sign of that age shows up after the shot: the portafilter spits when it comes off, or the puck is wet and loose.
Both point to the path that releases pressure from the group once brewing stops. On a lever-operated group that path runs through valves inside the group; on a switch-operated group it runs through a three-way valve. Coffee residue and scale block either one. We collect the machine, clear or rebuild that path on our bench, and send you the repair price in writing first.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Portafilter that spits when it comes off the group. After a shot, the group should vent its leftover pressure into the drip tray. If the vent path is clogged, pressure stays trapped above the coffee, and taking the portafilter off sprays grounds and hot water. We clean the exhaust path, rebuild the valve if its seals are worn, and check that the group vents fully after each shot.
- Wet, loose puck after every shot. A soupy puck can come from too little coffee in the basket, so we ask about the dose first. If the dose is right, water left sitting above the puck is the cause, which means the group is not venting. The same cleaning or valve rebuild fixes both symptoms, and we test with a dosed basket before return.
- Steam tip holes blocked with dried milk. The tip on a steam wand has small holes that milk dries into when the wand is not purged and wiped. Steam then comes out weak or sideways, and milk will not stretch properly. We soak and clear the tip, replace it if a hole is damaged, and check steam flow at full pressure.

FAQ
Profitec in Orinda questions, answered.
-
Why does our Profitec spray grounds when we take the portafilter off?
Pressure is trapped above the coffee because the group did not vent after the shot. That points to a blocked exhaust path or a worn valve in the group. Wait a moment before removing the portafilter, and keep backflushing as the manual describes. If the spray continues, the group needs a clean-out on our bench. -
Do you pick up from homes in Sleepy Hollow and Orinda Downs?
Yes, and from the village, the BART side and the country-club streets. Everything in 94563 is in the pickup area. Hillside driveways and steps are fine; have the machine cool and the tank empty when we arrive. -
What does the Profitec pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does Profitec bench repair take?
