Profitec in Cupertino

Profitec in Cupertino kitchens.

Cupertino is one ZIP, 95014, but the kitchens split in two. Toward Stevens Creek on the west side, a lot of houses are 2010s rebuilds. The flatter eastern grid, Rancho Rinconada included, is mostly 1960s and 1970s ranches, remodeled a room at a time. A dual boiler Profitec acts the same in both, and its faults tend to come back to a heating part, a sensor the controller reads, or the water it is filled with.

A dual boiler keeps brew water and steam in separate boilers, each with its own element, both watched by the controller. That makes the display a useful clue and sometimes a misleading one. We collect the machine from your door, start it cold on our bench, and compare the display with a thermometer at the group and a gauge on each boiler. Once the failed part is clear, you approve the repair before anything is ordered.

$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

  • Brew boiler that stalls short of its set temperature. The display climbs, then hangs a few degrees under the target, or takes far longer than it used to. A tired element, a solid-state relay that no longer switches fully, or scale on the element can each cause it. We measure the element, watch the relay output while the controller calls for heat, and replace only the part that fails the test.
  • Steam boiler that overfills on very pure water. The steam boiler judges its level with a probe that senses water by conductivity. Reverse-osmosis or distilled water carries almost no minerals, so the probe can read a full boiler as empty and keep the pump filling until water spits from the steam wand. We drain the boiler, clean the probe and watch several fills.
  • Display reads correct but the shots taste sour. The controller reads a sensor in the brew boiler, not the water leaving the group. Scale in the brew path, a sensor that has drifted, or an offset set wrong can leave the cup cooler than the number on screen. We put a thermometer at the group, compare it with the display over several shots, and correct the offset or replace the sensor.

FAQ

Profitec in Cupertino questions, answered.

  • We fill our Profitec from an under-sink filter in a West Cupertino rebuild. Is that water fine?
It depends on the filter. A carbon or softening filter is generally fine. A reverse-osmosis system that strips out nearly all minerals can confuse the level probe in the steam boiler. If you are not sure what is under the sink, send the filter's model name with the machine.
  • Can you collect from Rancho Rinconada as well as the streets near Stevens Creek?
Yes. All of 95014 is in the pickup area, from the eastern grid to the west side. Let the machine cool and empty the tank and drip tray first.
  • The display says the brew water is ready. Is the group that hot too?
Not at first. The group and the portafilter heat more slowly than the boiler, so a shot pulled as soon as the display reads ready can run cool. Lock the empty portafilter in during warm-up and run a short flush before the first shot. If the taste is still sour after that, the bench test is the next step.
  • What does the Profitec pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately.
  • How long does Profitec bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered.
  • What warranty applies to Profitec coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
