Profitec in San Bruno
Profitec in San Bruno kitchens.
San Bruno's houses mostly date from the 1940s through the 1960s, around the old Tanforan area and up into Rollingwood and Crestmoor, and many of those kitchens have since been remodeled. A remodeled kitchen usually has GFCI outlets along the counter. If a Profitec trips one as it heats, the outlet is often doing exactly its job, and the fault sits inside the machine.
A GFCI trips when a little current leaks to ground. In an espresso machine the usual suspects are a heating element that has let moisture in, a wet connector, or a pump or valve coil breaking down. We collect the machine, test the insulation of each part on our bench, and send the findings and a written price before we repair anything.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- GFCI outlet that trips as the machine heats. A heating element is a wire packed in insulating powder inside a metal sheath. If moisture gets past the seal at its ends, current leaks to the sheath once the element warms. We measure leakage from each element to the frame, replace one that fails, and retest the machine on a GFCI outlet.
- Water on connectors after a leak inside the case. A small leak can drip onto a terminal or a valve coil, and the first sign is a tripped outlet rather than a puddle. We find the leak, dry and clean the connections, replace any that have corroded, and seal the source before the machine is tested again.
- Valve coil breaking down with age. Machines with an electric brew or fill valve use a small coil to open it. An old coil can overheat, hum or leak current to ground. We check the coil's resistance and insulation, then replace the coil, or the whole valve if its seat is worn as well.

FAQ
Profitec in San Bruno questions, answered.
-
Our Profitec keeps tripping the GFCI outlet in our remodeled kitchen. Is the outlet bad?
Sometimes, so test that first by plugging in something else that draws real power, such as a kettle. If the outlet holds with the kettle and trips with the machine, the leak is inside the Profitec. Do not move it to an ungrounded outlet to get around the trip. Send it in so we can find the leaking part. -
Is it safe to reset the GFCI and keep using the machine?
Not if it trips again. A single trip after a spill can be a one-off. Repeated trips mean current is leaking where it should not, and the outlet is protecting you from it. Leave the machine unplugged until it has been tested. -
Do you pick up in Crestmoor and the hills toward Skyline?
Yes. Crestmoor, Rollingwood, the Tanforan flats and the newer houses toward Skyline are all within 94066. Let the machine cool and empty the tank, and we collect it and return it to the same address. -
What does the Profitec pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does Profitec bench repair take?
