Profitec in Richmond
Profitec in Richmond kitchens.
Richmond housing runs from older bungalows in the Annex and out toward Hilltop to restored Victorians in Point Richmond and newer townhomes at Marina Bay. In any of those kitchens, the part of a Profitec that scales first is the steam boiler. Steam leaves as pure vapor, the minerals it carried stay behind, and they build up with every jug of milk.
On a dual boiler, that means the steam side can be heavily scaled while the brew side is nearly clean. On a heat exchanger machine, the one boiler gathers it all. We collect the machine, open the boiler on our bench, and clean the probe, element and valves the scale has reached. The findings and a written price reach you before we go further.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Level probe crusted so the steam boiler misreads. The probe tells the controller when the steam boiler needs water. Scale on its tip makes it read dry when the boiler is full, or full when it is low, so the boiler floods or runs short. We clean or replace the probe, check its seal in the boiler, and confirm the fill stops at the right level.
- Scale flakes lodged in the steam valve and wand. Loose scale from the boiler walls can travel up into the steam valve and wand and stick there. Steam comes out in bursts, or the valve will not shut tight. We clear the valve and wand, clean the boiler so no more flakes are waiting, and test steam at full pressure.
- Heating element failing early under a layer of scale. Scale on the steam element keeps the heat in the element instead of the water. The element runs hotter than it was built for and can split or short. We replace a failed element, clean the boiler before it goes back in, and check the safety cutout the failure may have tripped.

FAQ
Profitec in Richmond questions, answered.
-
Why would our dual boiler's steam side scale up faster than the brew side?
Because steam leaves the boiler as vapor and the minerals stay behind. Each refill brings in more, so the steam boiler concentrates whatever the water carries. The brew boiler sends its water out as coffee, minerals and all, so it builds scale much more slowly. -
Can you pick up from Point Richmond and the Marina Bay townhomes?
Yes. Point Richmond, Marina Bay, the Annex, the Iron Triangle and Hilltop are all in the pickup area across 94801, 94804, 94805 and 94806. We take the machine cool and empty and return it to the same door. -
How can we slow the scale building in our steam boiler?
Start with the water. If yours is hard, a softening filter or water made for espresso machines cuts the mineral load. If the machine takes a filter in its tank, change it on schedule. A planned bench service that opens the steam boiler catches scale before it reaches the probe and the valves. -
What does the Profitec pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. -
How long does Profitec bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to Profitec coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
