Profitec in Palo Alto

Profitec in Palo Alto kitchens.

Greenmeadow and Fairmeadow on the 94306 side are whole tracts of Eichlers, with open ceilings and kitchens that face the living room. In a house like that, a Profitec is heard as well as used. A new rattle, a pump that drones louder than before, or a sputter from the hot water tap carries straight across the room.

Noise is a useful clue. A vibration pump hangs on rubber mounts that harden and crack, and then the pump shakes against the frame. A rotary pump should hum quietly, so a whine points to a motor bearing or the coupling to the pump head. We collect the machine anywhere in 94301, 94303, 94304 or 94306, listen to it on our bench with the covers off, and put the repair price in writing first.

$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

  • Vibration pump knocking on worn rubber mounts. Vibration pumps sit on rubber mounts that soak up the buzz. After years of heat those mounts go hard or split, and the pump starts knocking against the frame or a hose. We replace the mounts and any clips that have worked loose, make sure no hose is rubbing, and measure pump pressure while it is out.
  • Rotary pump that whines or growls. A rotary pump should give a low, steady hum. A rising whine or a growl can come from a worn motor bearing, a loose coupling between motor and pump head, or a pump head that has taken in scale or grit. We separate the two halves, test each one, and replace only the half that has worn.
  • Hot water tap that sputters and spits steam. On a heat exchanger machine, hot water comes from the steam boiler, and on some models it is blended with cold water through a mixing valve. Sputtering means the boiler level is low, the mixing valve is scaled, or the tap valve is worn. We check the level probe, clean or replace the mixing valve, and rebuild the tap with new seals.

FAQ

Profitec in Palo Alto questions, answered.

  • Our Profitec sounds louder than it used to in our Eichler. Should we worry?
A change in sound deserves attention. Refill the tank and check that the intake hose reaches the bottom, since a pump drawing air gets loud. If the noise stays, or shots come out weak alongside it, stop using the machine and send it in. Worn pump mounts are a small repair; a pump that keeps running dry is not.
  • Do you collect from apartments in Midtown and University South?
Yes, and from Old Palo Alto, Crescent Park, Professorville and the Eichler tracts. Tell us about building entrances, stairs or parking when you book, and have the machine cool and empty. It comes back to the same address after testing.
  • Is a rotary pump Profitec quieter to live with than one with a vibration pump?
Generally yes. A rotary pump hums at a lower, steadier pitch, which suits an open kitchen. Rotary machines can usually be plumbed to a water line as well. A vibration pump is louder but simpler, and both last well with regular maintenance.
  • What does the Profitec pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately.
  • How long does Profitec bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered.
  • What warranty applies to Profitec coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
