We added a flow control paddle to our Profitec. Does that change how it should be serviced?

A little. The paddle adds a valve with its own seals, so a maintenance service includes stripping and regreasing it along with the group gasket and shower screen. Send the machine with the paddle fitted, and tell us the setting you usually brew with.

Can you pick up in Monta Loma and Cuesta as well as Old Mountain View?

Yes, all three ZIPs are in the pickup area: 94040 for Cuesta and Monta Loma, 94041 for Old Mountain View, and 94043 toward Shoreline. The machine leaves cool and drained, and it comes back to the same address.

Why does water fall from our shower screen in thin separate streams?

Part of the screen is blocked. Coffee oils and fines bake into the mesh and the holes behind it, so the water finds only a few paths. Backflushing and a scrub with a group brush can clear light buildup. A screen that is still blocked after that needs to come out for cleaning or replacement.

Mountain View splits three ways: Craftsman and bungalow remodels in Old Mountain View, 1950s single-story homes in Cuesta and Monta Loma, and newer townhomes toward Shoreline. A Profitec can land in any of those kitchens, sometimes with a flow control paddle fitted to the group so the owner can shape each shot. That paddle is a small valve, and it wears like one.

When the paddle drips, turns stiff, or stops changing the flow the way it did, the fix is usually a seal kit and a good cleaning, not a new group. We collect the machine in 94040, 94041 or 94043, take the group apart on our bench, and test the flow at several paddle settings. The repair price comes to you in writing before anything is replaced.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Flow control paddle that drips at the group. The paddle turns a needle valve in the water path above the group. Its seals harden with heat, and coffee oils and scale gather around the stem. Water then weeps past the stem, or the paddle grinds as it turns. We strip the valve, clean the seat, fit new seals with food-safe grease, and run it hot.
Shower screen clogged with baked-on coffee oils. Under the group gasket sits the shower screen that spreads water over the coffee. Oils and fine grounds bake into it until the water falls in a few thin jets. Shots channel and taste uneven. We remove the screen and the dispersion block, soak and scrub both, and replace the screen if the mesh is torn or bent.
Drip tray drain that backs up on a plumbed machine. When a plumbed Profitec has a drain hose on its drip tray, the tray empties itself instead of by hand. Grounds and scale slowly block the hose or the tray outlet, and water climbs over the edge. We clear the outlet, replace a hose that has kinked or clogged, and check that the drain falls steadily to the waste line.
