Wipe the wand with a damp cloth as soon as you finish steaming, and purge it for a second or two so milk inside is blown out. Once a week, soak the tip in hot water. A tip left with dried milk for days is what blocks the small holes.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Plug or cord that runs hot at the outlet. An espresso machine draws heavy current while it heats. On a worn outlet, a loose plug or a power strip, that current makes heat at the contacts, and the plug can discolor or soften. We inspect the cord, plug and internal connections, replace any that are damaged, and advise plugging straight into a wall outlet.
Water spraying unevenly from the group. When the shower screen clogs with coffee oil and fines, water leaves the group in a few jets instead of an even shower. The puck comes out cratered and the shots taste harsh. We remove the screen and the dispersion plate, clean the group face, and replace a screen that is bent or blocked.
Steam tip with blocked holes. The steam tip has small holes that dried milk can close one by one. Steam then comes out weak or in a single sideways jet, and milk heats slowly without much texture. We clear the tip, check the wand and valve for milk residue, and confirm full steam flow before the machine goes back.
