Profitec in Clayton
Profitec in Clayton kitchens.
Summers in Clayton are hot and dry, and a steamed latte is not always what anyone wants in July. If your dual boiler Profitec lets you switch the steam boiler off, you can pull shots over ice for months. That works, but the water in the steam boiler sits the whole time and the parts on that side stop moving. When the boiler comes back on in the fall, stuck valves and stale water can show up together.
Clayton gets treated Delta water from the Contra Costa Water District, and its minerals build up in both boilers over the years. We collect the machine from Dana Hills, Clayton Wood, Cardinet Glen or Peacock Creek, open it on our bench and check the steam side as closely as the brew side. You approve the written quote before any repair.
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Vacuum breaker stuck after the steam boiler sat off. The small valve that lets air out as the steam boiler heats can stick after a long rest. Then it either hisses steam once the boiler is hot or never lets the air out at all. We clean or replace it and test several heat cycles.
- Stale water and deposits in a boiler left off for months. Water that sat in a switched-off boiler tastes flat and leaves deposits behind. We drain and flush the steam boiler, check the level probe and the element, and refill it with fresh water.
- Element that fails when the steam boiler comes back on. An element that sat cold for months can fail on its first heat-up, especially with scale on it. We test its resistance and its insulation and replace it if either reading is out of range.
