Profitec in Portola Valley

Profitec in Portola Valley kitchens.

A fair number of Portola Valley properties, especially out toward Skyline, run on well water rather than a municipal supply. Well water varies from one property to the next, and an espresso machine feels the difference. Fine sediment collects in the inlet screen of a plumbed machine, and a heavy mineral load scales the boilers and valves sooner than the usual service interval assumes.

When we collect a Profitec from the wooded lots off Alpine Road, Westridge or the Ladera edge, tell us where its water comes from and whether it passes through a filter or softener. On our bench we check the screens, valves and boilers for sediment and scale. The findings and a written repair price come back to you, with a note on protecting the machine from that water.

$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

  • Inlet screen packed with well sediment. A plumbed Profitec usually has a fine screen where the water line enters. Grit from a well settles there and chokes the flow, so the pump runs short of water, the boiler fills slowly, and shots weaken. We clean or replace the screen, flush the lines, and suggest a sediment filter ahead of the machine if grit keeps arriving.
  • Heavy scale from mineral-rich water. Water with a high mineral load leaves scale on the elements, the level probe and the small valves much sooner than softer water does. The first signs are slow heating, a boiler that overfills, or a valve that drips. We descale the boilers by hand where needed, clean the probe and valves, and replace parts the scale has damaged.
  • Controller that behaves oddly after a power cut. When the power drops out and returns while a machine is on, the controller restarts mid-cycle. Most machines recover, but a surge or a brownout can leave a relay stuck or settings lost. We check the controller, relays and power switch, restore the settings, and run the machine through a full cold start.

FAQ

Profitec in Portola Valley questions, answered.

  • Our house runs on a private well. Can our Profitec use that water?
It can, with care. Well water ranges from soft to very hard and can carry sediment, so a hardness test and a sediment filter are a good start. If the water turns out hard, a softening filter or bottled water made for espresso machines protects the boilers. Mention the well when you book so we look at scale first.
  • Should we unplug the machine before a planned power shutoff?
Yes. Switch it off and unplug it before the shutoff, and leave it that way until the power is steady again. That spares the controller and relays both the drop and the return. When you switch it back on, give it a full warm-up and watch the first heat cycle for anything unusual.
  • Do you collect from the ranch properties out toward Skyline?
Yes. Everything in 94028 is in the pickup area, from the Ladera edge and Westridge to the ranch properties toward Skyline. Gravel drives are fine. Give us directions to the right gate or door when you book.
  • What does the Profitec pickup deposit cover?
$150 pickup deposit. Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return are included. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. Repair work is quoted separately.
  • How long does Profitec bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered.
  • What warranty applies to Profitec coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
