Yes. With the moderately hard supply shifting between sources, a fixed descale interval can be too long in some months. Once the machine is open on our bench we can tell how much scale built up since the last cycle, and we set a descaling interval from that.

Can you collect a WE8 from a studio in the Arsenal?

Yes. The Arsenal, downtown along First Street, Southampton, the Eastside and the West Side are all in our pickup area. Let us know about stairs or a narrow entry in the older buildings and we plan for them.

Should we rebuild our brew unit or replace it?

A rebuild with new gaskets and seals is usually enough when the unit only leaks. If the housing is cracked or the drive has worn, a replacement unit makes more sense. The written quote lists both options, so you choose before we start. We work on Jura as an independent shop, not factory authorized, and we say so up front.

It grinds, brews and froths on one touch, so a small staff leans on a lot of moving parts every morning. The brew unit carries most of that load, and when its gaskets harden, the first complaint is thin coffee and a wet puck.

Water is the other half of the story. Benicia's supply blends the State Water Project, Lake Berryessa and Lake Herman, and it comes out moderately hard, with the reading shifting as the blend changes. We pick the machine up from the Arsenal, the First Street area, Southampton or the Eastside, run it on our bench, and send a written quote before any part goes in.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Brew unit leaking past hardened gaskets. Heat cycles harden the brew unit's gaskets until water slips past them and pools under the unit. Coffee comes out thin and the puck lands soggy. We pull the unit, replace the seals and wear parts, lubricate it, and reset the maintenance counter so the next reminder means something.
Coffee spout that keeps dripping after the cup. A spout that drips long after the cup is done usually has a valve downstream of the brew unit that is not closing, or an outlet packed with old coffee residue. We clean the outlet and the lines to it, test the valve, and replace it if it will not seal.
Filter cartridge that runs out before its reminder. The filter reminder tracks volume, not minerals. When the harder part of Benicia's supply is in the mix, a cartridge can be spent before the machine asks for a new one. We look at the scale inside the heater and valves and suggest a change interval that fits your water and your cup count.
