San Mateo carries one of the busiest restaurant rows on the Peninsula, from 25th Avenue over to the B Street corridor downtown in 94401 and 94402, and a fair number of those spots run Slayer Espresso and Single Group machines through a full lunch and dinner service. This is also where our Peninsula technician lives, so San Mateo calls aren't waiting on a truck from San Ramon.

Downtown San Mateo's restaurant density means these machines see long hours and back-to-back covers most nights, which wears on group seals and the needle valve alike. We work them as an independent shop and put every quote in writing before starting a repair.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Brew needle valve and actuator. A full dinner service on B Street or 25th Avenue pushes a lot of pulls through the needle valve in one stretch. We clean the seat and free up a sticky actuator so the flow profile stops drifting mid-service.
Group seals and gaskets. Long service hours wear group gaskets down faster than a light-volume shop sees. We replace the seals on the affected groups so the portafilter locks and the head stops leaking under load.
Descaling and water filtration. A restaurant running two full services a day needs a working filter and a real descale schedule, or the boiler and solenoids inherit the scale first. We check the cartridge and descale the system so it doesn't get ahead of the machine.
