Slayer in Richmond

Richmond runs a small but serious coffee crowd, from the cafes near the Ferry Terminal at Point Richmond to the roasters and shops along Macdonald Avenue in the 94801 and 94804 area. A Slayer is a real investment for a shop that size, and when the brew group quits, the line out the door stops with it. We service Slayer Espresso and Single Group machines as an independent shop, no factory ties, and we get parts sourced through Slayer when a job needs them.

From San Ramon it is about 35 minutes up to Richmond depending on the bridge and 580. We cover 94801, 94804, and 94805. Most of these failures trace back to the water. Richmond tap is hard enough to scale a boiler and clog a needle valve, so we look at descaling and filtration on every visit, beyond the broken part.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Brew needle valve and actuator. Slayer's flow profiling lives in the needle valve. Scale and grit foul the seat and the actuator drags. We clean or rebuild it so the pre-infusion ramp comes back.
Group seals and gaskets. Worn group gaskets blow steam and drip at the portafilter. We swap seals on the affected groups and reset the heads so they lock clean.
Boiler element and probe. Hard Richmond water scales the element and fouls the probe, so the boiler under or overshoots. We descale, test the probe, and replace the element when it reads open.
Brew and steam solenoids. A stuck solenoid means no flow or a group that won't shut off. We test the coils, clear scale from the valve body, and replace the solenoid if it's dead.
