Slayer in El Cerrito

El Cerrito doesn't run the espresso density Berkeley does, but a few counters along San Pablo Avenue in 94530 and near El Cerrito Plaza have put in Slayer 2 group machines and dial in flow profiles for their regulars. On hillside water that runs harder than the flats, the needle valve is usually the first thing to act up.

From San Ramon, El Cerrito runs 40 to 45 minutes out on I-580 or Highway 24 to I-80, and it's part of our Berkeley and Richmond Inner East Bay rotation.

What we repair on the bench.

Needle valve rebuilds on flow-profiling machines. A shop dialing in a specific flow curve feels a sticking or drifting needle valve immediately. We pull the valve and actuator on the group, rebuild the internals, and set the profile back to where the barista had it.
Group seals and gaskets. Even at moderate volume, daily steaming and pulling wears out group seals over time. We swap the seals and portafilter gaskets so the group holds pressure and the leak at the collar stops.
Control boards. A group that stops responding or a temperature gauge that reads wrong usually traces to the control board.
Descaling and filtration on hard lines. Hillside plumbing in El Cerrito runs the same hard water as the rest of the inner East Bay. We break down the boiler for a full descale, clear the lines, and install filtration so the buildup doesn't come back as fast.
