Albany's espresso bars sit mostly on Solano Avenue in 94706, the strip it shares with North Berkeley, and a few of them run Slayer 2 group machines built around flow profiling for a loyal, repeat crowd.

Albany runs 40 to 45 minutes from San Ramon on I-580 or Highway 24 to I-80, and it's part of the same route as our Berkeley and Richmond Inner East Bay days. A single-location cafe on Solano Avenue has no backup machine, so we keep seals and solenoids stocked to close most jobs on the first stop.

What we repair on the bench.

Needle valve rebuilds on flow-profiling machines. A cafe chasing a specific pressure curve for its regulars catches a needle valve drifting off long before it fails outright. We open the valve assembly, rebuild the internals and actuator, and dial the profile back to where the barista set it.
Group seals and gaskets. Steady daily use on a Solano Avenue counter wears group seals down over time. We fit new seals and fresh portafilter gaskets and confirm the group holds pressure without weeping at the collar.
Control boards. If a group loses its display or the temperature reading goes erratic, the control board is the likely cause.
Descaling and filtration on hard lines. Albany draws from the same East Bay water supply that scales machines all along this corridor. We take the boiler down for a full descale, flush the lines, and set up filtration built for daily volume.
