Faema in Millbrae

Faema commercial service.

Faema makes the espresso machines you find behind the counter at serious coffee shops, and the brand carries real history: it invented the E61 brew group, the design that still defines how most traditional machines pull a shot. Faema sits inside the La Cimbali group out of Italy, which keeps the parts channel alive for everything from a new Teorema to an E61 Legend.

In Millbrae the Faema work comes from the independent cafes around Broadway and the coffee bars catching the commuter wave off BART and Caltrain. A two-group Faema on a commuter counter pulls its hardest shots between 6 and 9 in the morning, and that is exactly when it cannot be down.

I service Faema on site, with genuine parts where it matters, a written quote, and the $75 diagnostic waived when the repair goes ahead.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Group gaskets and shower screens baked hard. The E61-derived groups seal with gaskets that heat-cycle every shot. When they bake hard, the portafilter needs a shove past six o'clock and shots channel. I replace gaskets and screens across all groups in one visit and backflush to spec, which restores the seal and the shot quality together.
  • Rotary pump pressure sagging under morning load. A Faema that pulls fine at idle but sags to 7 bar during the commuter rush has a worn rotary pump or a clogged inlet strainer. I gauge the machine under simulated load, rebuild or replace the pump, and set brew pressure at the gauge, not by taste memory.
  • Autofill overfilling or triggering constantly from scale. Peninsula water scales the level probe and the fill solenoid on Faema boilers. The machine either overfills into the safety or clicks the fill valve every few seconds. I descale the probe, service or replace the solenoid, and check the boiler's overall scale condition while the panels are off.

FAQ

Faema in Millbrae questions, answered.

  • Our cafe is on Broadway in Millbrae. How does scheduling work with your shop in San Ramon?
We treat Millbrae as part of our standing Peninsula loop with Hillsborough, so we are in the area on set days every week. The direct run from San Ramon is about 50 minutes across the 92 bridge. For a down two-group we move fast, and for maintenance we book you into the next loop day, often within 48 hours.
  • Can you service an older E61 Legend, or only current Faema models?
The Legend is a favorite of mine. The E61 group is the most documented brew group in espresso history, and La Cimbali group parts support keeps gaskets, valves, and thermosiphon components available. Age alone never disqualifies a Faema from repair.
  • How often should a busy commuter cafe schedule Faema maintenance?
For a machine pulling heavy morning volume, gaskets and screens twice a year, a pump and pressure check annually, and water filtration verified every visit. Kept on that cycle, a Faema runs for decades. I put the interval plan in writing so you can budget it.
