Faema in Hercules
Faema commercial service.
The E61 group is the part of a Faema we work on most. Faema designed it, and it still shapes how most traditional machines pull a shot. Its gaskets and seals harden and crack with heat cycling whatever the water, so a machine in Hercules on EBMUD water wears them at the same pace as anywhere else. The signs are water weeping around the portafilter, channeling, and a drop in extraction pressure.
We collect the machine from the Waterfront District, Hercules Bayfront or a counter along San Pablo Avenue and bring it to our bench. There we pull each group, check the gasket, shower screen and seals, and write up the rebuild. You approve the quote before we touch a part, and the machine goes back with every group tested at pressure.
$150–450 deposit depending on the model. It covers pickup, bench diagnosis and return, and is not credited toward the repair. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Portafilter weeping at the group gasket. A hardened gasket no longer seals against the portafilter, so water leaks around the edge during the shot. We replace the gasket and shower screen, check the group face for wear, and pull shots to confirm the seal holds.
- Channeling and uneven extraction. A cracked seal or a clogged shower screen spreads water unevenly through the puck, and the shot comes out sour on one side and bitter on the other. We clean or replace the screen and the seals behind it, then check the flow from each group.
- Extraction pressure dropping at one group. If one group loses pressure while the others hold, the problem sits in that group or its valve. We put a gauge on the group, rebuild what is worn, and bring its pressure back in line with the others.

FAQ
Faema in Hercules questions, answered.
-
How often should the E61 group gaskets be replaced?
It depends on how many shots each group pulls. Heat cycling hardens the gaskets whether the machine is busy or not, so even a quieter counter needs them eventually. We suggest an interval once we have checked how worn yours are. -
Is a water filter still worth it on EBMUD water?
Yes. EBMUD water is soft to moderate, so scale builds slowly, but a plumbed Faema heats a lot of it over a year. A filter on the inlet and a descale on a schedule keep the boiler and solenoids clean for longer. -
Can the group be rebuilt without replacing the whole thing?
Almost always. The group body lasts for many years, and the gaskets, seals and screens are the wear parts. We replace those, clean the rest, and test the group at pressure before the machine leaves. -
What does the Faema pickup deposit cover?
$150–450 deposit depending on the model. It covers pickup, bench diagnosis and return, and is not credited toward the repair. -
How long does Faema bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to Faema coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
