Viking in San Mateo

Viking in San Mateo kitchens.

San Mateo runs a wide range of kitchens. Downtown near B Street and Third Avenue, the restaurant density is high enough that a lot of residents cook like they're running a small kitchen themselves, while out in San Mateo Park and Baywood the homes are bigger and the Viking suites tend to be full ranges with matching built-in refrigeration.

Heavy home cooks put more hours on a range than most households, and that shows in the burner and igniter wear I see downtown. Out in the larger Baywood and Aragon homes, it's more often the refrigeration side, a built-in column that's not holding temperature the way it used to.

We're an independent repair shop, EPA 608 certified, CSLB licensed #1136642, not affiliated with Viking. We've got a technician based on the Peninsula now, so San Mateo, along with Burlingame, Belmont, and Foster City nearby, is regular ground for us. Diagnostic is $99, credited toward the repair, quote generally in writing first.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Rangetop igniter and burner tune-up. A Viking rangetop that gets used daily wears its igniters and burner ports faster than an occasional cook's. We clean the ports, check the spark module, and replace an igniter that's gone weak so every burner lights on the first try instead of the third.
  • Built-in refrigeration sealed system. A Viking column that's running warm in a Baywood or San Mateo Park kitchen usually starts with the easy checks, coil cleaning, fan operation, door seal, before I call it a sealed-system problem. When it is the sealed system, we recover the refrigerant under EPA 608 rules and quote the fix in writing.
  • Wall oven element and control repair. A Viking wall oven that won't hold temperature or throws an error code partway through a bake usually has a failed element or a control board losing track of the sensor reading. We test both, replace what's actually bad, and check the calibration against a separate probe before we call it done.

FAQ

Viking in San Mateo questions, answered.

  • Do you actually have someone close to San Mateo, or is this a drive from San Ramon?
We have a technician who lives on the Peninsula in San Mateo County, and San Mateo is right in the middle of where he works. So the honest answer is your call goes to him, not to someone crossing the bridge from the East Bay.
  • Are you an authorized Viking service center?
No. We're independent, not affiliated with Viking. We're EPA 608 certified and CSLB licensed, and we're upfront that we don't hold factory authorization for the brand.
  • I run my kitchen hard, lots of cooking most nights. Does that change what usually breaks on a Viking range?
Yes. Heavy daily use wears igniters and burner ports faster than occasional cooking does, so that's usually where I look first on a range that's used constantly, before I check anything electronic.
