Los Altos runs from the walkable village around Main Street and State Street out to the larger lots near the Country Club. The older ranch homes in Old Los Altos have mostly been remodeled by now, and a good share of those kitchens came out with Viking wall ovens and a Professional range at the center. This is a town that cooks, and the ovens get used hard around the holidays.
Because so many of these kitchens are oven-forward, the calls I get most often here are about heat that will not hold. A Viking oven that bakes cold on one side or takes forever to preheat is frustrating in a house where the kitchen is the gathering room. The good news is that most of these faults trace back to two or three parts, not the whole unit.

The diagnostic is $75, waived when you move forward with the repair, and I put the quote in writing before starting so there are no surprises.

What we close on the truck.
- Wall oven that will not hold its set temperature. This is the top Viking call in Los Altos. A bake or broil element that has quietly failed, or a temperature sensor reading a few degrees off, throws the whole cavity out of true. We test the element resistance, check the RTD sensor against spec, and confirm the relay board is switching cleanly before deciding what actually needs to change.
- Range burners lighting slow or unevenly. When one burner lags behind the others or lights with a soft pop, the usual cause is a clogged burner port or a weak spark to that station. We pull and clean the burner caps, clear the ports, and check the spark distribution across the module so every burner lights the same way it did new.
- Oven door hinge and gasket wear. The doors on these ranges are heavy, and after years the hinge springs weaken so the door drops or gaps at the top. That lets heat escape and throws off baking. We rebuild or replace the hinges and swap the door gasket so the cavity seals the way it should.

How long does it take you to reach Los Altos from San Ramon?
We come down I-680 to I-280 and drop in through Mountain View or Palo Alto, both of which border Los Altos. It is usually around 45 minutes. We are on the Peninsula often, so it is an easy stretch for us to cover. -
My Viking oven bakes cold. Can it just be recalibrated?
Sometimes yes. If the sensor and elements test fine and the oven is simply reading a bit off, a calibration offset can bring it back into line. But I check the hardware first, because a bad element will not calibrate away. I would rather find the real cause than mask it. -
What is the fee for the diagnostic visit?
It is a $75 diagnostic. When you approve the repair, I waive that charge and apply it to the work. You get the written quote after I have diagnosed the unit, not before.
