Pinole's housing is mostly single-family, much of it from the 1940s through the 1960s, with bigger homes of three bedrooms and up out in Pinole Valley. A Viking Tuscany or Professional range in one of those kitchens usually arrived with a remodel. If that range was ever converted between propane and natural gas, the orifices matter more than any control board.
Viking sets natural gas and propane at different manifold pressures, with orifices sized to match. The wrong orifices leave burners that sear fine but will not hold a simmer, or flames that burn yellow and soot the caps. That is a gas-air problem, not electronics, so we check the gas type against the orifices before touching the controls. We are an independent Viking shop. Our technician covering Pinole is based in Benicia. The $99 diagnostic gets credited toward the repair, and the written quote comes first.
Common repairs we handle.
- Yellow, sooty flames on a Tuscany range. We confirm the gas supply, check each orifice size against it, and swap any that do not match. Then we clean the burner ports and adjust the air so the flame burns blue and the caps stay clean.
- Burner that goes out on its lowest setting. A clogged simmer port or an orifice made for the other gas can make a low flame blow out. We clear the port, set the low flame, and test each burner at its lowest setting before we pack up.
- Built-in refrigerator frosting over at the back. When the defrost heater, its thermostat or the defrost control quits, ice builds on the evaporator until air cannot pass. We melt the ice, find which defrost part failed, and replace it so the box holds temperature again.
