Viking in Lafayette
Viking in Lafayette kitchens.
Lafayette homes sit in the folds of the Diablo Valley, up Happy Valley Road, along Reliez Valley, and through Burton Valley near the trail. Many were remodeled with full Viking kitchens, so a 48 inch range with a matching built-in refrigerator is a common sight here. Luxury built-ins are the rule in these neighborhoods, not the exception.
In Lafayette the recurring Viking issue is doors and controls. A range oven door sags on its hinges, a refrigerator door gasket no longer seals, or a control knob and its igniter switch has gone unreliable. On the heavy Viking doors, worn hinges let the door drop a few millimeters, and that small gap is enough to leak oven heat or let a fridge run warm.
We are an independent shop out of San Ramon, licensed under CSLB #1136642 and EPA 608 certified, close enough that Lafayette is a short run for us. I carry Viking hinges, gaskets, and switch parts on the van for the common door and control work.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Range oven door hinges and alignment. A heavy Viking oven door that no longer shuts tight has usually worn its hinges or stretched the springs. We pull the door, check the hinge arms for play, and replace the hinges as a pair so it hangs level again. A door that sits even a little open bleeds heat and throws off baking, so I flag it to fix early.
- Refrigerator and freezer door gaskets. On Viking built-in refrigeration, a gasket that has hardened or torn lets warm air in and makes the compressor run long. We check the seal with a paper pull test around the whole door, inspect the magnetic strip, and fit a new gasket to the door profile. On built-in units the gasket must match the exact model, so I confirm it before ordering.
- Control knobs, switches, and spark control. Viking control knobs and their underlying switches wear out, and a knob that spins loose or a spark that will not stop clicking traces to the switch or the spark control module. We test the switch continuity, check the module, and replace the worn part. We also reseat the knob D-ring so it grips again instead of slipping.

FAQ
Viking in Lafayette questions, answered.
-
How quick is the drive from San Ramon to Lafayette?
We head up I-680 past Alamo and Walnut Creek, then take Highway 24 west to Lafayette, usually 20 to 30 minutes. Because Alamo and Walnut Creek are on the way, we often line up jobs along that corridor on the same route. -
Our Viking range door is heavy and hard to move. Can you adjust it without damage?
Yes. Those doors are heavy by design, and we remove them properly to work on the hinges, so nothing gets forced or scratched. On the Happy Valley and Burton Valley remodels I see this often, and the hinge replacement is straightforward. -
What do you charge to diagnose the problem?
It is $75 for the diagnostic, and we credit it back when you approve the repair. You get a written quote before we begin, so the hinge or gasket cost is clear up front.
