Viking in Alameda
Viking in Alameda kitchens.
Alameda homes run old and particular. On the Gold Coast near Grand Street and along San Jose Avenue you find Victorian and Edwardian kitchens that owners have gutted and rebuilt around a Viking range. Out on Bay Farm and Harbor Bay Isle the houses are newer, but the same pro-style gear shows up in the remodels. Viking is heavy commercial-style equipment, and it does not love a house that sits in salt air a mile from the estuary.
The failure I see most on the island is spark ignition. A Viking sealed burner that sparks over and over without catching, or fires on one head while the next stays dark, usually comes back to a tired spark module or a fouled igniter, not the whole cooktop. On a 5-Series that steady ticking can also mean moisture has worked into the igniter switch, which happens more here than inland.
We are an independent shop, not a Viking dealer, and I will tell you plainly when a part is worth replacing and when it is not. ADRIUM is based in San Ramon and we bring Viking-specific parts to the island, so the parts a burner job usually needs are already on the van. We are EPA 608 certified and licensed under CSLB #1136642.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Burner igniters and spark modules that click without lighting. On Viking 5 and 7-Series ranges the surface burners fire from a spark module tied to each igniter. When a single head ticks without end, or the whole set throws sparks yet nothing takes flame, we meter the module, the igniter switches, and the ground before swapping a thing. Salt-air corrosion on the switch contacts is common near the estuary, and cleaning or replacing that switch often settles it for a fraction of a full cooktop repair.
- Oven bake and broil elements that heat unevenly. A Viking wall or range oven that colors one edge of a sheet pan darker, or sits below the number on the dial, usually traces to a bake element, the broil element, or a temperature sensor that has wandered off. We compare the element resistance and the sensor reading to the control board, then replace the failed part and watch the oven hold its setting through a full cycle.
- Refrigeration that cycles warm on built-in units. Viking built-in refrigerators in Alameda kitchens can lose cooling when the sealed system or the evaporator fan gives up. We diagnose whether the fault is airflow, a defrost problem, or a sealed-system leak. Sealed-system work needs EPA 608 handling, which we carry, and I will give you a written quote before we open the system.

FAQ
Viking in Alameda questions, answered.
-
Do you drive out to Alameda from San Ramon?
Yes. We are based in San Ramon and reach Alameda by taking 580 west through San Leandro and over to the island, usually a bit under an hour depending on the tube traffic. We cover the whole island, from the Gold Coast to Bay Farm. -
Is Viking common in Alameda, or do you rarely see it here?
It is less common on the island than in the estate towns, but it turns up often in the remodeled Victorians near Park Street and in the newer Harbor Bay houses. We service it whether you have one Viking piece or a full pro-style kitchen. -
What does the diagnostic cost?
The diagnostic is $75, and we waive it when you go ahead with the repair. We give you a written quote before any work starts, so you see the full cost before you decide. We do not book same-day, but we set a firm window and keep it.
