East Palo Alto has changed a lot over the last couple decades, with newer construction and remodels going in near University Avenue and along the bay side of town, sitting right between Palo Alto and Menlo Park. More of those kitchens carry a Viking range or built-in refrigerator now than they did years back, usually installed during a full remodel rather than original to the house.

Because a lot of the Viking equipment in East Palo Alto went in during a remodel rather than a new build, I see a mix of ages, some units barely broken in and others pushing well past a decade. The older ones tend to bring me hinge and gasket wear, while the newer installs are more often a burner or an electronic control acting up.

What we close on the truck.

Door, hinge, and gasket wear on older installs. On the Viking units that have been in an East Palo Alto kitchen the longest, the hinge springs and door gasket are usually the first things to give out. We rebuild the hinge, fit a fresh gasket, and get the door sitting flush again so it isn't leaking air past a worn seal.
Burner ignition problems on the rangetop. A Viking burner that needs several clicks before it catches, or one that lights with a pop instead of a clean flame, usually has a fouled igniter or a spark module that's starting to fail. We clean and test each burner individually and replace only the part that's actually causing the problem.
Electronic control faults on newer installs. On the more recently installed Viking ovens and refrigerators, a control panel that freezes or won't hold a set temperature is often a board or sensor issue rather than anything mechanical. We test the sensor readings against what the board expects before we decide which part is at fault.
