Rodeo sits on the eastern shore of San Pablo Bay, and the Bayo Vista homes and townhomes are small to mid-size, many built from the 1940s through the 1960s. A Viking range in a kitchen that size lives close to everything else, and its professional hood does a lot of work. When the hood blower weakens or the grease filters load up, smoke and grease settle on the range and on the burner parts underneath.
That grease finds its way to the spark electrodes and burner caps, and a range that starts ticking without lighting often has a fouled electrode rather than a failed module. We clean the burners, test the spark at each one, and service the hood on the same visit when it needs it. We have no dealer tie to Viking and repair it as an independent shop. Common repairs we handle.
- Hood blower weak, loud or dead. We clean the grease filters, check the blower motor and its speed control, and look for grease packed in the housing. A dragging motor gets replaced, and we make sure the hood pulls smoke off the range again.
- Spark electrode fouled with grease. A greasy or cracked electrode keeps every burner ticking. We clean or replace the electrode, dry the burner box, and test the spark module only if the clicking survives a clean, dry burner.
- Oven ignitor worn out on an older Viking. An ignitor that glows but never lights the bake burner has weakened with age. We measure its current draw, replace it, and run a full bake so you see the flame hold and the oven reach temperature.

Our Bayo Vista kitchen gets smoky even with the Viking hood on. Is the hood failing?
Maybe, or the filters are loaded. Clean baffle filters and a blower at full speed should pull smoke off the range. If they are clean and it still struggles, the motor, the speed control or a blocked duct is next, and we check each. -
Is it safe to keep using a Viking range that clicks nonstop?
The clicking itself is not dangerous, but a burner that does not light while gas flows is a different story. If you smell gas, leave the knobs and the supply alone, get out of the house and call 911 and PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 from a safe distance. If there is no smell, turn that burner off and leave the range off until the visit.
