Viking in Berkeley
Viking in Berkeley kitchens.
Berkeley kitchens split between two worlds. Up in the Claremont and along Grizzly Peak the older hill homes have been remodeled around pro-style Viking gear, while the Craftsman houses down in Elmwood and the flats keep smaller but well-used ranges. Both kinds of owners call for the same reason: something on the appliance stopped working the way it should.
What I fix most in Berkeley is the mechanical side of the door. Viking built-in refrigerators and ovens in these older houses take years of hard use, and the hinges sag, the gaskets flatten, and the door stops sealing or sitting square. A refrigerator that runs long or an oven that leaks heat around the door is often a hinge and gasket job, plus a control check to be sure the fault is not deeper.
We are an independent shop, not a Viking dealer, run out of San Ramon by Andrew Kuznetsov. I give straight answers about what a door or control repair is worth on an older unit, and we put the price in writing before we start. We are EPA 608 certified and licensed under CSLB #1136642.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Doors, hinges, and gaskets that no longer seal. On Viking built-in refrigerators and wall ovens the door hardware gives out before the machine does. A sagging hinge or a flattened gasket lets cold or heat slip past and makes the unit work harder than it should. We adjust or replace the hinges, fit a fresh gasket, and set the door so it draws tight against the frame all the way around.
- Controls and switches that misread the appliance. A Viking oven that ignores its setting or a refrigerator that shows the wrong temperature can be a control or a switch rather than a heating or cooling fault. We test the control against the sensors and relays, find the part that is actually lying to the machine, and replace only that. I do not swap a whole board on a guess.
- Range burners that click or will not light. Viking range surface burners fire from a spark module, and a burner that keeps ticking without a flame usually comes down to the module, an igniter switch, or an igniter caked with grease. We test the ignition circuit, clean or replace the failed piece, and check that each burner lights and holds a steady flame on its own.

FAQ
Viking in Berkeley questions, answered.
-
How do you get to Berkeley from San Ramon?
We take 24 west through the Orinda tunnel into the East Bay, which puts us in Berkeley in about forty minutes outside of commute hours. We cover the hills and the flats, from Claremont down to the Elmwood. -
Do you see much Viking in Berkeley?
Yes, mostly in the remodeled hill homes above the Claremont, though it shows up in the flats too. We service it either way, from a single Viking range to a built-in refrigerator paneled into an older kitchen. -
What will the visit cost before repair?
The diagnostic is $75, waived when you go ahead with the repair. We hand you a written quote after the diagnosis, so you decide with the full price in front of you.
