Viking in Hillsborough
Viking in Hillsborough kitchens.
Hillsborough is estate country. Along Crystal Springs Road, Ralston Avenue, and up through Tobin Clark and Black Mountain, the kitchens were built around the appliances, and Viking built-in refrigeration shows up in a lot of them. This is the kind of town where a full Viking suite is normal rather than rare, and the refrigeration is usually the piece that gets me called.
The Hillsborough call I take most is a Viking built-in refrigerator that is not holding temperature. On a built-in column or a 48 inch side-by-side, a box that will not stay cold usually traces to the sealed system: a weak compressor, a refrigerant leak at a joint, or an evaporator frosted over behind the panel. This is EPA 608 work, and I am certified for it, so we can open the sealed system legally and recover refrigerant correctly.
We are an independent San Ramon shop, licensed under CSLB #1136642, and I treat these built-ins carefully. Panel-ready Viking units are integrated with the cabinetry, so we protect the surrounding millwork when we pull a unit for compressor or condenser access.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Built-in refrigeration sealed system. A Viking built-in that runs warm despite a working fan and compressor points to the sealed system. We check the compressor draw, look for the oil weep at a joint that marks a leak, and read the evaporator for frost blockage. Sealed-system repair is EPA 608 regulated work, so we evacuate the old charge, seal the leak, pull the loop into a deep vacuum, and weigh in new refrigerant instead of guessing at a top-off.
- Defrost control and compartment fans. When a Viking built-in ices up or the compartment fans stop, the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or a fan motor is usually at fault. We run the defrost cycle manually, confirm the heater and thermostat, and clear the drain line so meltwater does not refreeze. On the column units the condenser sits up top and packs with dust, so we clean it while we are in there.
- Ice maker and water inlet valve. Viking built-in ice makers stall when the water inlet valve sticks, the fill tube ices shut, or the harvest motor quits. We check the valve for flow, thaw and clear the fill line, and run the harvest cycle before replacing anything. A thin trickle of ice is almost always the valve or a partly frozen line, not the whole head.

FAQ
Viking in Hillsborough questions, answered.
-
You are based in San Ramon. How do you reach Hillsborough?
We cross the San Mateo Bridge and come up the Peninsula, the same route that serves Atherton and Palo Alto. It is a longer drive than our East Bay work, usually 40 to 55 minutes, so we schedule Hillsborough and Peninsula jobs together and give you a tight arrival window. -
Can you handle a panel-ready Viking built-in that matches our cabinets?
Yes. Most Hillsborough Viking refrigeration is integrated behind custom panels, and we remove and refit those panels without marking the cabinetry. I note the panel hardware before we start so it goes back exactly as it was. -
What is the charge to come out?
The diagnostic visit is $75, waived when you approve the repair. For sealed system work we give you a written quote after the diagnosis, since the fix depends on whether it is a leak, a compressor, or a control.
